Dr. Joseph K. Gordon

Welcome to my site! I am Professor of Theology at Johnson University (Tennessee) where I have taught since June 2019. Prior to that I taught at Johnson University Florida (June 2015-December 2018). Johnson has created a lovely faculty feature video which introduces my teaching and work:

I am also director of the Critical-Realist Hermeneutics team of the International Institute for Method in Theology, an initiative established by my late co-doktorvater Rev. Robert M. Doran, S.J. (1939-2021) for the advancement of the thought of Rev. Bernard Lonergan, S.J. (1904-1984), one of the most significant Christian thinkers of the 20th century. In spring 2019 I spent a semester as a post-doctoral fellow at the Lonergan Institute at Boston College. For the 2023-24 school year I will be a post-doctoral fellow at the Lonergan Institute again (at large) as I finish a book introducing Bernard Lonergan’s life and work.

For now, you can check out my academic resume (Curriculum Vitae), learn about my book Divine Scripture in Human Understanding (University of Notre Dame Press, hbk 2019, pbk 2022) and its reception, browse my other publications, read about my approach to teaching, and finally learn about my special interest in creaturely theology. You can also contact me concerning speaking engagements or about anything else here.
